If you have OK SAT scores with an aboveAug 23 2006Computer Science
If you have OK SAT scores with an above average HS GPA, a little extracurriculurs, and a lot of potential, then chances are you can get in. Average HS GPA with a very good SAT score will do the same. First year will test your ability to keep up with the acadmeic schedule, but the second year will really test your ability to keep up with a significantly larger workload per class (it was like that for me, anyway).

If you find yourself struggling to get the work done throughout the quarter, you're ahead of the game because if you're not struggling throughout the quarter, you're probably not trying as hard as you can to get an above average grade. From my experience, those who struggle only during the last 2 weeks of the quarter and finals week are the ones who usually end up with C's, D's, and F's.

Have decent grades, show your a hard worker (have a job, good grades again, or just be active). A decent SAT score helps as well. Visit the college first, its important.

I got in, with cruddy SAT scores and mediocore math grades. But I did mention I scored in the like 96% percentile on the grammar section [ hard to beleive eh?] Anyhoo. I wrote a very honest please accept me letter. It talked about things I had done in the past that involved my major [robotics club, braking stuff to see what makes it tick, buildings various, well call them , ballistics] anyways. My essay showed I had a drive and passion to learn my major. I think ultimately that passion is what got me in. Definitely not my grades !
